Sgt.-at-Arms Pelcher and Council Member Sprague Meet US President







Sergeant-at-Arms Milton “Beaver” Pelcher and Tribal Council member Bernard Sprague had an opportunity to meet with President Barack Obama on June 18, 2009. While in Washington DC for a meeting hosted by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Pelcher was able to gift the president with semaa (tobacco) during their brief visit.

President Obama Signs Proclamation of Native American Heritage Month

Through use of a formal presidential proclamation, the US president Barack Obama declares November as Native American Heritage Month.

"Our debt to our First Americans is immense, as is our responsibility to ensure their fair, equal treatment and honor the commitments we made to their forbears," said Obama in his proclamation.
