The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe is pleased to announce a Celebration of Healing, Recovery & Hope. The event is slated for Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Tribal Gym located at 7070 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant. The agenda includes personal experiences from Tribal and community members along with a “Warrior Ceremony” calling for all warriors to fight the war on drugs! Tribal Chief, Steve Pego, will declare “war” during the event.
Guadalupe Gonzalez, SCIT Youth Lead Manager, states: “In the last few years our community has seen an increase in heroin addiction, overdose and death. It’s time to stand together against the vicious cycle of addiction that has plagued our community for far too long. I hope to see every single community member who has been affected by the destruction of drug addiction in the tribal gym on Wednesday.”
The event is sponsored by the Youth LEAD Department, Saginaw Chippewa Education Department, Behavioral Health Program, Nimkee Public Health and the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe Court Healing & Wellness Program who have been meeting for months to make it all inclusive no matter what your spiritual beliefs are.
Steve Pego, SCIT Tribal Chief, states “I am proud of my Tribe for standing up and fighting this war on drugs. We do not have to do this alone and am inviting everyone who has ever been affected by drugs to come and stand with us!”
